Feast on the Fire

A fall harvest gathering

This intimate gathering is designed to bring the harvest time magic of the village to life. Join us for a long weekend full of food-focused ancestral skills classes with a focus of food harvesting and preparation, and enjoy communal cooking experiences on our central fire.

What To Expect at Feast on the Fire
Arrive Thursday evening, with time to get your camp set up and get settled. Opening circle will take place Friday morning, followed by our first day of classes and workshops. Each evening, we’ll have a guided dinner preparation on the fire as an experiential workshop. Music and merriment will follow into the evening! Personal acoustic instruments are welcome, and bring your singing voices! We will provide dinners on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, and the opportunity for everyone to get involved with the cooking. Participants are responsible for their own breakfasts and lunches. Bring harvests from your gardens to share! Together we will create a communal food supply of corn, potatoes, squash and other seasonal ingredients that will be available for everyone to enjoy

Instructors will offer earth skills classes Friday-Sunday morning, with afternoons focused on primitive cooking and feasting together as a community. Classes at this event will be focused around seasonal earth-based skills and food harvesting/preparation. Examples include acorn processing and preparation, animal processing/butchery, and corn nixtamalization. A complete list of workshops will not be available before the event. This event will be a more intimate setting than our Earth Skills Gathering, with around 80 people. Closing circle will be Sunday evening before dinner, and participants are welcome to spend Sunday night on the land and depart Monday morning. Please plan to leave no later than 12 pm on Monday.

Wild meat cooks on the coals, acorns are being pounded, and someone arrives with a big bag of mushrooms. Friends laugh and tell stories around a bright fire as food is served. Some people brought produce from their personal gardens, while others are sharing their deer, elk, or other wild food harvest from the season. It’s an ancient feeling: sharing food, skills, music, secret recipes and community around the fire.

Let’s feast!
